Partnership with bp to Support
Student Renewable Energy Program
September 2024, Kuwait City - bp Kuwait and the Kuwait Green Building Council (KGBC) have entered into a partnership to launch a Renewable Energy Student Program, an initiative designed to equip the next generation of leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to advance Kuwait’s transition to renewable energy. The program is a dynamic five-week course targeting architecture and engineering students, providing them with theoretical and practical insights into renewable energy and its applications in Kuwait.
bp, a global leader in the energy industry, has committed to embedding sustainability into all aspects of its operations. bp's sustainability framework emphasizes improving people’s lives, protecting the planet, and actively supporting the global transition to cleaner energy sources.
KGBC is a nonprofit, nongovernmental, membership-driven organization dedicated to promoting and advocating for the sustainable transformation of Kuwait's built environment. As a member of the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) network, which includes over 75 green building councils globally, KGBC plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of sustainable development in Kuwait. The organization believes that sustainable buildings and urban environments are fundamental to a prosperous and resilient future.
The Renewable Energy Student Program aims to empower 25 students through a comprehensive curriculum that explores the challenges and opportunities of renewable energy. Held every Saturday, the program will cover the fundamentals of renewable energy, its applications in Kuwait, and the economic factors shaping the industry. In addition, the program will foster proactive discussions on potential local applications and encourage students to think critically about the future of energy in Kuwait.
Anar Aliyev VP Kuwait & Qatar said: “Our new social investment programme align our efforts with Kuwait’s 2040 vision and Kuwait Direct Investment Authority strategy and national development goals for economic diversification, education and environment enhancement by developing knowledge in renewable energy.”
Khaled Al Mashan, Chairman of KGBC, highlighted the imperative of sustainable practices: “Our reliance on the planet's resources mandates a shift towards sustainability, transforming it from a choice to a crucial goal. This initiative aims to equip future professionals with the insight and motivation to advocate for renewable and sustainable building practices. These practices are essential not only for reducing our environmental footprint but also for enhancing the overall quality of life. We are committed to nurturing a new generation of leaders who will champion these sustainable transformations in Kuwait’s building and construction sectors.”
The program is open to architecture and engineering students in their third year or higher. Participants will be selected from Kuwait’s private and public universities.
The signing ceremony for this partnership was attended by key leadership from both KGBC and bp Kuwait, who expressed their shared commitment to advancing sustainability in Kuwait and preparing the next generation of leaders to embrace renewable energy solutions.
