KGBC and Gulf Consult Host Technical Session on Life Cycle Assessment in Green Building Practices

Kuwait City, May 26, 2025
As part of our ongoing mission to promote sustainable building practices in Kuwait, the Kuwait Green Building Council (KGBC), in collaboration with Gulf Consult, held a specialized technical event on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and its role in advancing green building practices.
LCA is a powerful tool for evaluating the environmental impact of buildings throughout their entire lifecycle—from material selection and construction to operation and end-of-life stages. With sustainability becoming a critical priority across sectors, the event aimed to highlight how LCA can support more informed and environmentally responsible decisions in Kuwait’s built environment.
The session opened with welcoming remarks from Mr. Khalid Al Mashaan, Chairman of KGBC, and Ms. Sharifa AlGhanim, Director at Gulf Consult. Both speakers emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration to embed sustainability principles into design, construction, and policy.
A keynote presentation was delivered by Ms. Aditi Chitnis of OneClickLCA, who shared global best practices and case studies demonstrating the value of LCA in various building contexts.
The session then featured three expert presentations:
Dr. Esra Al Eisa (Kuwait University) provided an academic lens, exploring LCA’s potential in Kuwait’s construction research and education.
Eng. Nisha Alexander (Kimmco Isover Insulation) highlighted the role of manufacturers in supporting LCA and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
Arch. Ravi Armoudjian (Gulf Consult) shared practical examples of integrating LCA into the design process to guide sustainable project outcomes.
A moderated panel discussion followed, led by Dr. Mohammad Abotalib (Kuwait University), sparking a dynamic exchange on the opportunities and challenges of implementing LCA locally. The session concluded with a Q&A segment, allowing attendees to engage directly with the panelists.
The event welcomed over 70 participants from across Kuwait’s design, engineering, construction, academic, and industrial sectors, as well as students and sustainability advocates.
This event reflects KGBC’s commitment to fostering dialogue, education, and collaboration around the tools that can drive sustainable change in Kuwait’s building industry.
