INTO ETERNITY

Film Screening & Expert Discussion

Kuwait, September 2025

The Kuwait Green Building Council (KGBC), in partnership with Ajial Real Estate & Entertainment, hosted the First screening of Green Movie Nights, a community engagement initiative that connects environmental topics with public dialogue through film and expert-led discussions.

Held on Wednesday, October 8th, 2025, at The Urban Hall, Mezzanine Floor, Al Andalus Complex – Hawally, the event brought together students, sustainability professionals, and community members to explore one of the most critical environmental questions of our time: how do we responsibly manage nuclear waste for future generations?

The evening featured the award-winning 2010 documentary Into Eternity: A Film for the Future, a deeply thought-provoking film that examines the construction of the world’s first permanent repository for nuclear waste - the Onkalo facility in Finland. The documentary challenges audiences to reflect on long-term responsibility, sustainability, and the ethical implications of creating materials that remain hazardous for more than 100,000 years.

Following the film, a live discussion and Q&A session was held, guided by Dr. Bassam Shuhaibar, delving into themes of environmental stewardship, intergenerational responsibility, and the importance of long-term thinking in sustainability planning. Participants engaged in critical dialogue on how decisions made today will shape the environmental legacy left for future societies.

Through interviews with scientists, engineers, and philosophers, the film reveals the complexity and permanence of nuclear waste and prompts audiences to reconsider what “sustainability for the future” truly means.
