Living Water

Sunday, 21 December 2025

In collaboration with Ajial Real Estate, Kuwait Green Building Council hosted a special screening of Living Water, a powerful documentary that sheds light on the critical importance of water, the growing global challenges surrounding its availability and management, and the urgent need for sustainable solutions.

A Story of Scarcity and Resilience

The film focuses on the water situation in Wadi Rum, Jordan, offering a compelling and human-centered look at how communities are navigating water scarcity with resilience, innovation, and deep respect for their natural environment. Through striking visuals and personal narratives, Living Water illustrates how climate pressures, overuse, and limited resources intersect—making water not only an environmental issue, but a social and economic one as well.

Expert Perspectives from Kuwait

Following the screening, the conversation continued with an engaging discussion led by researchers from the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR): Sara Alhaddad and Abdullah Bousam. Drawing from their research and professional experience, the speakers reflected on the themes raised in the film and contextualized them within Kuwait’s own water reality.

The discussion explored Kuwait’s water scarcity and water security challenges, highlighting the country’s heavy reliance on desalination and the vulnerabilities associated with energy-intensive water systems. The speakers emphasized the importance of diversifying water strategies and adopting integrated, long-term solutions to safeguard this critical resource.

Pathways Toward Sustainable Water Management

Among the solutions discussed were practical and scalable approaches such as greywater systems, water reuse, demand management, and improved efficiency at both building and city scales. The conversation underscored the role of policy, technology, and public awareness in shaping more resilient water systems—while stressing that individual and collective action are equally essential.

Continuing the Conversation

The screening and discussion served as a reminder that water challenges are deeply interconnected across the region and beyond. By learning from shared experiences—whether in Wadi Rum or Kuwait—we can better understand the urgency of protecting water resources and accelerating the transition toward sustainable water management.

We thank our speakers, partners, and attendees for contributing to a thoughtful and timely dialogue, and we look forward to continuing these conversations through future events and programs.
